Aluminum is the most abundant metallic element in the earth's crust, and is second only to iron in industrial use thanks to its many useful properties. It is lighter than steel, and like copper, it has high conductivity for heat and electricity, excellent corrosion resistance in most environments, and can be readily cast or forged into a wide range of applications.
